Canadian Passport Name Change
Update or Correct Personal Information on Your Canadian Passport
You must update or correct the personal information on your Canadian passport—such as your name, date of birth, or place of birth—if the information on your current passport is no longer accurate.
This is required if:
- Your surname has changed due to marriage, divorce, or another legal change in relationship status
- You have legally changed or corrected your first name or last name
- Your date or place of birth was recorded incorrectly on your passport or has been legally corrected by a competent authority
Keeping your passport information accurate and up to date is essential to avoid travel disruptions, denied boarding, or delays at borders.
Important
To update or correct personal information, you must apply for a new Canadian passport and pay the applicable government fees, even if your current passport has not expired.
Passport Canada does not amend or reissue passports solely to correct personal details without a new application.
Required Documents
You must submit:
- A new adult general passport application
- Supporting legal documents, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or legal name-change certificate
- Any additional documents required to support a correction of birth details
- Payment of the full passport fee
